ECTA October News: Fall Trail Tips, Upcoming Hikes & Volunteer Days

Fall is officially here and there really is no better time for the trails! � The weather is great for all outdoor activities, the foliage is peaking, and the trails are in beautiful condition! � There are a few things to remember when out enjoying the trails this time of year, so be sure to read our Fall Trail Tips.

There are so many events going on this weekend, it’s hard to choose just what to do! � You can check out a new trail along the Artichoke River in West Newbury on Saturday at the WNOS Fall Trail Hike. � Or perhaps you’d prefer to walk by the light of the moon with our friends at Bradley Palmer at the DCR Full Moon Hike on Saturday night. � Busy Saturday? � Join Wayne Castonguay from Ipswich River Watershed Association on Sunday at the IRWA Trail Walk to explore their newly expanded Riverbend campus.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us with trail work at Dow Brook Conservation Area on Wednesday, October 23rd and at Ipswich River Watershed Association on Saturday, November 9th. � Read below for more information on volunteering.

Fall Trail Tips

Autumn is a great time to hit the trails…the countryside is bursting with fall color, the weather is cool and dry, and trails thick with vegetation are more navigable as foliage starts to drop. � But fall also brings sudden changes in temperature, ground wasps and hunting season.

Here are a few tips to keep you safe on the trail this fall >>

Volunteer With Us!

Fall is also a great time for trail work! � Join ECTA and our partners as we work to improve our trail network! � We will be cleaning up the remnants of an illegal “encampment” in the Dow Brook Conservation Area in Ipswich on Wednesday, October 23rd from 10am – 1pm. � We’ll hike in from the High Street entrance. � Please email us to sign up or if you would like more information. � On Saturday, November 9th we will partner with Ipswich River Watershed Association to expand the trail network at their Riverbend campus. � We will create a new loop trail to the rockery and lily pond, which were once part of one of the most well-known landscaped gardens in New England. � Thank you to REI of Reading for sponsoring our IRWA Volunteer Work Day!
