Dear ECTA Supporters,
Fall is just around the corner and we are busy planning a full schedule of events to take advantage of this wonderful season on the trails! We hope that you can join us at one or more of these upcoming events. Also stay tuned for more details on a volunteer trail work day at Prospect Hill (on the border of Ipswich and Rowley) which will be scheduled later this fall.
We have also been busy on the trails! Many of you may not be aware, but on September 6th a microburst hit our area causing severe damage from Cutler Road in Hamilton to just north of downtown Ipswich. Many trees and branches came down along trails at Groton House, Appleton Farms, the Bird Reservation and other properties in the area. We are working with property owners to clear this debris as quickly as possible, and we would like thank all of our trail stewards who sent in reports or went out and cleared what they could on the trails!
Thank you also to our friends at West Newbury Riding & Driving Club for hosting another great Adventure Trail event this past Sunday, with 55 riders coming from MA, NH and ME to explore the trails at Riverbend, Mill Pond and Pipestave Hill! Proceeds from the event will help support ECTA’s trail work in West Newbury.

10th Annual Run for the Trails
Have you registered yet? The weather looks beautiful for this Saturday’s Run for the Trails! Join us for 5 miles or run the full 10-mile course, which is part of New England Running’s North Shore Trail Series. Not running? Volunteer with us! We still need help for water stations and check-in.
We are excited to be hosting the 4th Pan-Ipswich Challenge, a 15-mile walk/run starting at Hood Pond and ending at Argilla Road, on Saturday, October 18th. Walkers leave at 8:00 am, runners at 10:30 am, and we’ll celebrate with lunch and refreshments at the end of the route. Participants are asked to raise $100 in pledges in support of the event, both to contribute financially and to raise awareness of ECTA’s mission. The fall foliage along the route should be beautiful this time of year!
On Sunday, September 21st, as part of the Essex HeritageTrails & Sails event, ECTA will be hosting a bike ride along the rail trail through Topsfield, Wenham and Danvers. We’ll start at Topsfield Town Hall at 9:00 am, and will stop along the route to check out the Wenham Canal and the Swamp Walk. Refreshments and bike check at Cherry Street in Danvers sponsored bySeaside Cycle. Mountain bikes or hybrid bikes recommended.
