Description:
The 49-acre Topsfield John C. Nutter Memorial Forest is accessed from Haverhill Road (Rte. 97) or from a small parking area on Rowley Road. Renamed in 2005 as a tribute to Topsfield resident and conservationist John C. Nutter, the forest forms a stretch of the northeast boundary between Topsfield and Ipswich and is nearly contiguous to part of the DCR Willowdale State Forest in Ipswich. A long dirt and gravel lane leads through the Town Forest to the Waldo H. Smith Town Beach on Hood Pond. Stands of pine trees with some deciduous trees line the lane into the forest and the path down to the sandy beach where there are swimming docks in the summer and a concrete bath house. In summer, the Town Beach is open to members of Topsfield Beach Association only. hoodspondtopsfield.com
