Dear ECTA Supporters,
First of all, we would like to thank everyone who joined us in making the Winter Tracks Benefit Party at Brackenside a huge success: the attendees, the raffle contributors, the sponsors, our host and our wonderful team of volunteers!
We also want to let you know that just because there is snow on the ground, that doesn’t mean our work stops! We will continue our mission to keep the trails open and accessible through the winter, and as we have the opportunity, we will also be working on larger trail projects. Just before the snow hit, we broke ground on a new project on Bridge Street near Gathering Farm, which will be completed as soon as possible this spring. We also have several winter events planned, including the always-popular Ski/Hike to the Black Cow on January 18th.

On December 5th, over 200 guests made their way to the Winter Tracks Benefit Party to support the Essex County Trail Association. We were delighted to see a mix of new faces and long-time members, hikers, bikers, runners, riders, landowners and trail users. The event drew together our diverse membership for a fun and festive evening in support of our trails.
There is a rich and extensive equestrian history in the Gathering Farm area of Bridge Street in Hamilton. After the original estate property was subdivided in the mid-1980s, riders continued to enjoy the use of these trails under the informal “handshake agreement” between neighbors. When a section of trail was closed, access to nearby “Yellow House Field” was completely cut off. ECTA, trail users & landowners have collaborated to restore this crucial link in our trail network & to raise funding for this extensive project.
