We hope that you enjoyed the holidays and the start to this wonderful new year. � We are excited to kick off January with snow on the ground and hope that you have been enjoying the trails in their winter splendor! � ECTA is once again helping with the New England Sled Dog Races at Appleton Farms, and we have many exciting events coming up this month associated with the races, as well as our annual ski/hike to The Black Cow!

New England Sled Dog Races

Looking for a truly unique activity this winter? � On January 19th & 20th sled dog teams from all over New England, New York and Canada will gather at Appleton Farms to race through the woods in search of the ultimate prize, the Norman Vaughan Memorial Championship. � Races start at 9am both days, and parking is $20 per car. � (Backup “no-snow” dates Feb 2-3)

NESDR Pre-Race Party

Celebrate the upcoming races with friends, local mushers, special guest Shelly Gill! � Enjoy great bluegrass music, take a chance on one of the unique raffle prizes, or bid to win a hand-made quilt, sled dog scene painting, or other fantastic items! � Tickets $75 per person. � Please RSVP as soon as possible to reserve your tickets for this event by email or at 978-468-3310.

Shelly Gill Presentation

Join the Friends of the New England Sled Dog Races on January 17th for a presentation by Alaskan author, adventurer and dog musher, Shelly Gill. � Gill’s books have sold more than a million copies. � Her fist book, Kiana’s Iditarod, was about her own experience as one of the first women to run the 1,100 mile sled dog race to Nome. � The presentation, held at the Hamilton-Wenham Community House on Bay Road, starts at 7pm and is open to the public at no charge. �

Ski to The Black Cow

We will ski (or hike, if not enough snow!) from the Waldingfield/1A parking lot at Appleton Farms to Patton Park on January 26th. � Those who want to stay on and warm up over lunch can join us at The Black Cow.
